Choice blindness is the phenomenon where people fail to notice when their own decisions are manipulated, yet they readily invent reasons for the outcome.
In a 2005 study, participants were shown two faces and asked to pick the most attractive; when the images were swapped by the researcher, participants justified their preference for the face they had actually rejected.
You will rationalize almost any decision as if you made it intentionally.
