humor
Your sense of humor relies on feeling safe.
Humor arises when a situation is perceived as a violation of social norms but is simultaneously deemed benign.
The brain requires a conflict between what should be and what is, combined with a resolution that poses no actual threat. If a violation is too severe, you feel threatened; if it is too harmless, you feel bored. You find something funny when your brain recognizes the danger is artificial.
Laughter is how you signal that a problem is not a threat.
