choice blindness
You will invent reasons for a choice you never made.
In a 2005 experiment, participants provided confabulated explanations in approximately 82% of the trials where they failed to notice that the face they were justifying was not the one they had chosen.
The original study measured the frequency of confabulation across successful manipulation trials, not the total percentage of participants.
You do not make decisions based on reasons; you make decisions and then manufacture the reasons.

- What the check found
- The claim misidentifies the statistic as referring to participants rather than trials and uses an inaccurate percentage based on the original 2005 Johansson et al. findings.
- Confidence
- Solid, with limits
