You remember stories better than sequences of abstract facts.

The dual-coding theory suggests that memory is enhanced by pairing verbal and visual information.

Information stored in both a linguistic and a concrete image format is far more durable than information stored in either format alone. When you read a text, your brain attempts to build a mental model or picture. This secondary representation acts as a backup retrieval path when the verbal memory fades.

Understanding is just building a better internal movie.
