You are influenced by the first thing you hear.

The primacy effect in conversation means the first piece of information you receive about a person disproportionately shapes your entire impression.

In a 1946 study, researchers found that if someone was described as 'intelligent, industrious, critical, stubborn,' they were rated more favorably than someone described as 'stubborn, critical, industrious, intelligent.' Even though the adjectives were identical, the starting point created a thematic filter that the listener applied to all subsequent data. You interpret later facts through the lens of the initial ones.

First impressions are not just quick; they are structurally dominant.
